Flexible Service Access: Cover vs. Head Service
Space is often a premium in modern Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs). The UH310 design addresses this constraint by offering two distinct methods for element replacement, allowing system integrators to place the filter in tighter envelopes:
Cover Service (Bottom Access): This is the traditional maintenance method where the bottom bowl (tube) is unscrewed and removed. It is ideal for installations with ample vertical clearance below the unit. The "Removal Clearance" required ranges from 248mm for the short Code 08 housing up to 1061mm for the long Code 40 housing.
Head Service (Top Access): For installations where the filter is mounted near the floor or skid base, the element can be extracted through the top head cap. This method often requires less vertical clearance-for example, the Code 13 length requires only 440mm for head service compared to 383mm for cover service (plus the tube length).
Critical Torque Specification: To ensure a leak-free seal at 6000 psi, the Cover-to-Tube interface must be tightened to 105/95 Nm (77/70 lb-ft). Proper torque application is essential to prevent fatigue failure of the threads under cyclic loading.
Safety Features: Vent and Drain Plugs
Before opening any high-pressure vessel, stored energy must be safely released. The UH310 housing is equipped with dedicated ports for this purpose:
Vent Plug: Located on the head, this G1/4" or SAE-4 plug allows air to be bled from the system during startup to prevent cavitation and noise. It is also used to relieve internal pressure before service. Recommended torque is 16/15 Nm (12/11 lb-ft).
Drain Plug: Located at the bottom of the bowl, allowing maintenance personnel to drain the dirty oil into a pan before removing the cover. This prevents hazardous fluid spills on the plant floor.
Seal Compatibility: All housings come standard with Fluorocarbon seals (Z code). These seals are essential for high-temperature applications up to 120˚C and provide superior chemical resistance compared to Buna-N, especially in synthetic fluids.
Differential Pressure
Differential Pressure (D.P.) Indicators and Blanking Plugs
The UH310 housing features a machined indicator port to monitor element condition. Note: The housing is shipped with a plastic shipping plug which must be replaced before pressurization.
Brass Indicators (<200 bar): For systems operating under 200 bar, use our Brass option. Available as a Visual pop-up (Code A219D) or Electrical Switch (Code A218M/R) with Hirschmann connector.
Stainless Steel Indicators (>200 bar): For high-pressure safety, Stainless Steel is mandatory. Options include the Visual filter with thermal lockout (Code 778NZ) which prevents false alarms during cold starts, or Electrical Switches (Code 861CZ).
Blanking Plug Requirement: If your system uses remote sensors and does not require a local indicator, you must order the "B" type metal blanking plug (HC9000A104Z) to seal the port. Never attempt to operate the filter with the plastic shipping plug installed.
