Liquid/gas coalescer filter elements work by attracting tiny water droplets or other liquids, perhaps even as small as a single molecule. When droplets aggregate, they clump together through molecular attraction and surface tension. When they reach sufficient size, they can be removed from the system by gravity or the centripetal force generated by the component. Depending on the constituent substance, the material separated by the coalescer can be in liquid or vapor form.
