What Is The Filtration Efficiency Of Air Filter Element?

Sep 07, 2020

A common question is: "how accurate is it?" . However, the filtration accuracy is a measure used to describe the filtration efficiency of a liquid filter element, not the filtration efficiency of an air filter element.

Air filter elements are evaluated according to standards widely recognized by the industry, and their performance is expressed by filtration efficiency level.

The filtration efficiency level of the filter element is determined by injecting air containing dust of the known concentration standard test into the filter element until the end of its service life. The service life of the filter element ends when the resistance reaches a predetermined level. Standard test dusts are used to ensure consistency of particle size and represent the particle size range found under real conditions.

At the end of the filter element's service life, the amount of dust captured on the filter element is considered as the dust capacity of the filter element. Any dust passing through the filter element will be captured by the absolute accuracy of the filter element downstream of the air filter element in the test laboratory. The percentage obtained by dividing the amount of dust captured by the absolute precision filter element by the amount of dust injected into the air filter element is the filtration efficiency of the filter element.

The filtration efficiency of the air filter element will increase as dust accumulates on the surface of the filter element until it needs to be replaced. This is why it is important to make the air filter element work properly and not be replaced prematurely. In other words, air filters that reach the end of their useful lives are more effective than those that are often replaced.
